According to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Lacey N. Sprowes was arrested by on August 22, 2016, for Grand Theft and Fraud.
Sprowes was posting ads on Craig’s List under several different assumed names advertising properties for rent. Several victims contacted Sprowes to rent the properties. She would direct them to meet her in public parking lots to finalize the deal.
The victim would give her the required cash which ranged in amounts from $550-$800. Sprowes would provide the victim with a lease. Victims would later find out the property advertised for rent did not belong to the suspect, and the lease they received was fraudulent.
When they attempted to contact Sprowes about the property, the telephone number used for the previous transaction was no longer in service. The victims would then contact the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday night, August 21, one of the victims located Sprowes’ vehicle pulling into the Regency Inn on N. Monroe St. and he called LCSO. Deputies arrived and took Sprowes into custody without incident. After further investigations, Sprowes was placed under arrest for grand theft and obtaining property by fraud.
