57-year-old Peter Robinson of West Palm Beach, FL. died at Holmes Regional Medical Center after the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Sebastian Inlet State Park, where it was reported a naked man was acting erratically.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reports that upon arrival, Deputies located an adult male, naked in the inlet waterway, who was not coherent and appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
During the hours leading up to the initial report of the incident at Sebastian Inlet, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, and Indian River Shores Police Department had interaction with Peter Robinson after attempts to conduct a traffic stop on Robinson for erratic driving.
On each of the attempts to stop Robinson’s vehicle, the law enforcement agencies terminated the attempted traffic stops after Robinson actively fled law enforcement efforts.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are conducting independent and parallel investigations. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the actions leading up to the initial response by law enforcement. FDLE was asked to conduct an investigation regarding the in-custody death.
