Terrance H. Young Arrested After Child Killed, Infant Hurt In Shooting

37-year-old Terrance H. Young is now in custody following a shooting incident on April 2 that led to the death of a 10-year-old boy.

The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) found that boy shot in the torso and a 5-month-old girl shot in the wrist soon after officers arrived at 178 Center Street in response to an emergency call that came in at 5:42 in the morning.

The suspect, Terrance H. Young had fled the scene in a blue Land Rover sport utility vehicle by the time police arrived.

The vehicle was found around an hour after the incident was called in near the intersection of Whitehall and George streets. Officers were deployed from that location at that point in an attempt to track Young.

He was discovered at a residence on Division Street around 30 minutes after the vehicle was found and taken into custody by DBPD soon after he tried to set the house on fire, according to Police Chief Craig Capri.

Detectives believe Young shot both children with a rifle prior to fleeing the scene. The motive behind that is unclear at the moment, but detectives are still actively investigating.

The 10-year-old was pronounced dead soon after paramedics took him to Halifax Health Medical Center. The infant was transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando for treatment.

Prior to this incident, Young had warrants for his arrest out of Volusia County (fleeing & eluding) and Miami-Dade County (probation violation on aggravated stalking). Both are unrelated to this morning’s incident.

Young is currently in custody on the warrants. Exact charges in this incident are pending.
